Former Wall Street Admiralty and Maritime Law attorney John L. Senning, who specializes in both domestic and international private yacht and recreational boating law matters, has been recognized as a Certified Proctor in Admiralty by The Maritime Law Association of the United States for over 30 years.

Attorney Senning has developed a client base on both sides of the Atlantic as well as in the Mediterranean and Caribbean Seas. Essex Yacht Law Group has an affiliated network of maritime law offices in the United Kingdom, Bermuda, the Channel Islands, Tortola, BVI, Malta, Nice, France, Monte Carlo, Monaco, as well as New York and other U.S. cities and interfaces with other maritime attorneys, world class yacht surveyors and marine management companies around the globe to handle client matters, including offshore trusts and business entities, asset protection, real estate and historic and classic yacht registration and management related issues.

Attorney Senning has developed an expertise in a number of practice areas, most notably in the maritime law fields involving legal and transactional issues pertaining to yacht sales and purchases; charters; financing; title, registration and ownership issues, VAT and custom duty issues and lien disputes. As such, Attorney Senning has represented yacht owners, banks, charterers, and yacht charter organizations  in matters related to yacht ownership management, charter and purchases and sales as well as maritime lien pursuance and foreclosure means where appropriate.

Attorney Senning has been admitted to the highest courts in the States of Connecticut, Maine and New York and the United States District Courts for the Districts of Connecticut, Rhode Island and Maine and the Southern and Eastern District Courts of New York since 1976. While experienced in litigating matters in both state and federal courts, attorney Senning focuses on the resolution of disputes from a proactive problem avoidance/problem solving perspective, seeking the employment of alternative dispute resolution proceedings as a more economic and time efficient means.

Attorney Senning obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of Vermont and his Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Maine School of Law where he received a commendation for his studies in the field of aviation and inverse condemnation law. Following graduation, he attended Southern Methodist University Dedman School for Law's Institute of Aerospace Law specializing in aviation, admiralty and international law grauate studies before joining the New York and Washington, D.C. law firm of Bigham, Englar, Jones and Houston where he practiced in the area of maritime yachting law, yacht chartering, marine financing and trust law. Subsequently he returned to Connecticut to become a partner in a major trust and estates law firm then having offices in Hartford, New London, and Essex, the latter is where he continues to base his U.S. practice with the Essex Yacht Law Group.

        With decades of experience in the state and federal admiralty courts and working with affiliated local counsel throughout the United States and the world, attorney Senning has the multi state and international abilities to effectively counsel and assist clients both locally and worldwide.
